Presidential Pardons
The framers of the US Constitution recognized, better than the holier-than-thou critics of Joe Biden’s act of clemency to his son, that receiving the public’s trust as their national leader merits at least one personal privilege. Even Donald Trump, owing to his first presidential election victory, earned the right to pardon an ultimate dirty trickster like Roger Stone.
Unfortunately, it was probably some White House staffer who added politicization of the DOJ as an unneeded rationalization for Hunter’s pardon. In fact, President Biden didn’t have to provide any explanation at all for pardoning his own flesh and blood. Preserving our democracy shouldn’t prevent respect for human values such as fatherly love and being rewarded for achieving high public regard.
