AI ANTHROPOMORPHISM

The tech world has expressed its concern that AI agents have proven themselves able uncontrollably to act on their own. That is not so worrisome as the fear that human values may be ignored by artificial decisionmakers and their implementers.  This anomaly is referred to in the industry as a misalignment of a chatbot's behavior with accepted human norms.  Even the CEOs of the leading AI companies believe their organizations are unable to impose adequate standards of behavior on the independent actors they may create and prevent them ultimately from violating society’s rules of self-preservation.

Mankind has operated according to those rules under the conventions that they express the will of a supreme being or are self-evident. Apparently, thinkers in the cyber world have decided that, like humans, AI agents are progressing from their mastery of data to concocting a self-sustaining civilization. However, they are not sure that AI will draw the same conclusions regarding the sanctity of life. Therefore, they and their media amplifiers are calling for government intervention. When rogue men threaten local or world peace political institutions have been assigned the chore of sanctioning them.  The true test of AI’s conformance with our well-being will be whether it helps or resists mankind’s effort to save itself from destruction.
